Hello GoodBye Show info – Saturday 30th April 2011

The honeymoon is over!

Performing live in session on Hello GoodBye this afternoon are The Windsors and The Choo Choo Trains.

The Windsors rose from the ashes of the legendary Kenny Process Team. Simon King (guitar), Matthew Armstrong (bass),
Phil Bartai (keys) and Paul May (drums) play jewel-like tunes written specifically for the band by Kevin Plummer, the genius tunesmith behind KPT. “The music of Plummer and cohorts remains of interest to fans of forward-looking electric guitar music with a rock base, and stylistically is somewhere between the precision control of surf rock groups such as the Ventures and the almost classical compositions Captain Beefheart created in collaboration with guitarists such as Zoot Horn Rollo and Gary Lucas.” Eugene Chadbourne

The Choo Choo Trains is the most static band in England, the best band in the world. They are Veronica, Emma and Sarihi and they play music for the heart and soul. They have supported bands like Television Personalities and Wet Dog and have also received much praise from Kurt Cobain’s wheelchair pushing friend Everett True. The Choo Choo Trains is dedicated to Elvis Presley, the King of Rock’n’Roll.

Hello GoodBye Show info – Saturday 23rd April 2011

Brixton and Bristol are both represented in equal measure this afternoon on Hello GoodBye, from the West Country we have Siddy Bennett and from South East London The No Frills Band.

The South London Press recently described The No Frills Band as ‘ramshackle folksy Brixtonites’, the group play Irish, Welsh, English and Scottish tunes, American old time, bluegrass and western swing, Greek stuff, Turkish stuff, French tunes, Yiddish tunes, East European tunes and Scandinavian tunes, and some old country songs.

Siddy Bennett is poignant, poetic and often lyrically compared to the greats of Laura Marling and Sandy Denny. Her delivery, assured with the musicianship of her exceptional (violin included) band, ranges from upbeat, raucous, cider-infused festival dance music to epic, thought provoking folk ballads.

Hello GoodBye Show info – Saturday 16th April 2011

With Baaneex and Piper’s Son performing live in session.

Tune in between noon and 1.30pm on 104.4 FM in Central London or on-line via: www.resonancefm.com

Describing themselves as Dracula inspired garage-punk/noise-pop/roar-core, Baaneex are one of those rare bands that pull off avant sounds with a pop nous, with hooks and melodies breaking out from the melee of noise.
How will they recreate these wonderful sounds live?
Tune in today to hear them in session on Hello GoodBye.
New signings to the groovy Oddbox Records, seek out their debut EP, available now.

Piper’s Son play intense, compact songs and combine a lo-fi musical sensibility with visually rich lyrics. No one song comes from a single place. Instead, like a time-lapse photo, these slowly written songs look in many directions at once.

My Elastic Eye and The Count of Chateau Noir both make their debuts on Hello GoodBye this afternoon.

Tune in between noon and 1.30pm on 104.4 FM in Central London or on-line via: www.resonancefm.com

Formed in the early months of two thousand and ten, My Elastic Eye have already managed to capture the eyes and ears of many established artists and press as well as playing for Girl Records, Liverpool Gay Pride 2010, headlining the Camden Barfly for Union City, supporting Geneva Jacuzzi on the London Date of her European Tour, headlining Brave Exhibitions in Berlin and supporting no wave 80’s pioneers BLURT. Their influences come from the likes of Roxy Music, Spor, Futurisk and Cabaret Voltaire. My Elastic Eye have also worked with such highly acclaimed designers as Melissa, Vivienne Westwood, Judy Blame and Marco Mitanovski.

The Count of Chateau Noir took his name from Arthur Conan Doyle’s brutal anti-hero and is fascinated with myths, fairytales, pop songs and speculative physics, he writes, produces and records narrative songs that are in turn vulnerable, vicious and cruel but also blackly comic. Musically and lyrically the Count draws influence from Momus, Faultline Babybird and Tim Ten Yen.

Hello GoodBye Show Info – Saturday 2nd April 2011

Live in session on the show this Saturday lunchtime are the original dark-folk progenitors Comus, plus the virtuoso guitar skills of Jack Allett (formerly known as Spoono)

Tune in between noon and 1.30pm on 104.4 FM in Central London or on-line
via: www.resonancefm.com

Emerging from David Bowie’s ‘Arts Lab’ in suburban Beckenham (South East London) at the tail end of the 60’s, Comus were the poison-cure to flower-power.
With a mutual appreciation for The Velvet Underground, it is hardly surprising that founding members Roger Wootton & Glenn Goring garnered inspiration from the darker side of life, with murder, rape and madness the preferred subject matter.

Like a musical incarnation of ‘Seahenge‘ the band bore fruit from deep within the underground folk scene, while the roots to their name were found in the upper reaches of Greek mythology and the writing of the 17th century English poet John Milton. Comus’ legacy grows more acute with each passing decade, with Swedish Death-Metal outfit Opeth and British Apocalyptic-Folk group Current 93 heading the roll call of admirers. Tune in to hear them perform something old and – perhaps – something new!

Jack Allett is a 26 year old guitarist from Camberwell, South London.  As a member of Towering Breaker and under his erstwhile pseudonym, Spoono, he has – over the past 6 years or so – released LPs, 7″s and CDrs on a plethora of labels (inc. Blackest Rainbow, Great Pop Supplement, Chocolate Monk, Psykick Dancehall…)  In 2011 he has a solo LP – the first under his real name – planned for release on Blackest Rainbow, and a collaborative LP with Cam Deas to be issued on Present Time Exercises.

Also, journalist / musician Neil Walsh conducts an interview with the author Jeanette Leech about her new book, Seasons They Change: The Story of Acid & Psychedelic Folk (Jawbone Press)
