Hello GoodBye listings info – Saturday 13th october 2012

Following hot on the heals from Resonance FM’s airing of the Best of Dear Puppeteer radio show, we continue to pay tribute to the artist Ferris Blood.

Ferris died last year from cancer at a tragically young age and this weekend witnesses a number of events that all aim to pay tribute to his life and talent.
Ferris was the co-creator with Llyr Williams of Depressing Comics and also the brains behind the Dear Puppeteer radio show spin-off that was first aired on Resonance FM back in 2010.
Today on Hello GoodBye we feature live music from; bib, The Bronsteins & Mathew Sawyer.
Co-founder Llyr Williams will also be joining us to read from and discuss, the recently published hard back compendium of Depressing Comics.
Intellectual boy-band bib have re-formed especially for this event and join us in the studio with their wry, observational electro-pop.
Melinda Bronstein (The Bronsteins) performs bitter / sweet infectious pop.
Mathew Sawyer and The Ghosts explore the outer reaches of unrequited love in a timeless, classic pop form. They are signed to Fire Records and have two albums available: ‘Blue Birds Blood’ (2007) originally released on Stolen Recordings and Catbird Records (US) and ‘How Snakes Eat’ (2010).
All 3 of these acts are set to perform at ‘Waves of Canned Laughter’ the Ferris Blood tribute gig taking place at The 12 Bar Club (Denmark St., London) tomorrow evening, Sunday 14th October.

Hello GoodBye returns this Saturday 6th October!

Live music returns to Resonance FM this coming Saturday lunchtime with a new season of The Hello GoodBye Show hosted by deXter Bentley.

Expect performences from: Flash Gaps, Jack Day and Steve Rushton.

Wet Dog / Private Trousers splinter group; Flash Gaps conduct their debut public performence live on-air this afternoon. Flash Gaps are a new keyboard and ukulele, husband and wife duo Rebecca Gillieron & Richard Chapman. They are so newly formed, they don’t even have a website… hurrah!

Jack Day was born and grew up in Hornsey, North London. He has built a strong hometown following since emerging from the City’s thriving Americana scene and co-hosts the now legendary Lantern Society folk club..

His debut album The First Ten will be released in the UK through Bucketfull of Brains / Proper in December, and in Europe through Berlin label The Greatest Records.

Steve Rushton joins us in the studio to recite ‘Sweet Sex Education Teacher From Chichester’, the latest in a series of poetry singles published by Not Your Average Type, a publishing imprint set up with the aim of reviving the 7 inch single in book form, and giving new poets a chance to make a hit poem. It is Steve Rushton’s first book.

Steve was born on Merseyside, then moved south to study art and art history in London, where he developed an interest in writing and art, and where he now teaches art and design history, and exhibits and performs regularly.  Sweet Sex Education Teacher From Chichester is available from all good bookshops.

Tune in between noon and 1.30pm on 104.4 FM in Central London or on-line via: www.resonancefm.com

Hello GoodBye info – Saturday 30th June 2012

The final show of the season before deXter Bentley lopes off for a dose of sea-salt and ice cream!!!

Today’s live musical excursions navigate through absurdist-punk reverie with Chips For The Poor via translucent folk-poppery from Haiku Salut.

The sound of broke Britain, Chips for the Poor return to Borough High St for a live session today. A mere two years on from their previous single, the notorious 22 minute I am a Warrior and six months after their Live From Downtown Transmissions album (of original broadcasts on Resonance FM), their new single and terrace anthem Fistula is currently spinning loud on the turntables of psychotic Dutchmen the world over. Described variously as “the sound of two worlds colliding”, “beautiful”, “incendiary vocal cool tropical punk guitar”, “infectious inventive melodies and dirty tones” and “two one agitator spicy feeling” by various tastemakers and trendsetters, Chips are hunkering down in this age of austerity and aiming for number 1. Expect tight but loose sounds and probably songs they haven’t finished writing yet.
“Haiku Salut are a Derbyshire-based instrumental trio that use accordions, ukeleles, glockenspiels, pianos, loopery and laptopery to create a soundscape that has been likened to early múm, Detektivbyrån and the soundtrack to Amélie.

“How We Got Along After The Yarn Bomb” is the band’s debut EP and was released on Team Strike Force! in August 2011. They are currently working on their debut album “Tricolour” which is set to be released later in the year by  London based label How Does it Feel to be Loved.  In anticipation of it’s release they are embarking on an eight date UK tour in July – go to haikusalut.com for details.

Hello GoodBye info – Saturday 16th June 2012

Eastern Anglian experimental folk  from Three Beards, Haruko Seki tickling the ivories on the ol’ Joanna and Spinmaster Plantpot providing the abstract, a capella scat poetry, gonna be lively here on Hello GoodBye!

THREE BEARDS
With the beauty and madness of a bat stuck in a big head of hair, drawing on Eastern European music and the dark traditions of East Anglian folklore, Three Beards are an eight piece band whose tight and chaotic compositions take you on a journey from the heights of the East European mountains to vast vistas of Norfolk’s beaches. The self labelled “Eastern-Anglian” ensemble play a mixture of instruments including double bass, mandolin, banjo, guitar, marching drum, accordion, the trumpet from The Muppets, Tuba, broom and saw to produce a unique sound with nods to computer games, balkan, klezmer and appalachian music.

Their live performances cackle with an energy reminiscent of solstice barn dances fuelled with home brew. Eclectic and DIY in their approach where costumed procession complete with sacrificial burnings, mystical characters and pyrotechnics are par for the Three Beard course. They shout, growl, warble lyrics in made up languages and fill any stage with a pulsating energy and an experience of soaring emotion with a wild punkish spirit.

HARUKO SEKI
Concert pianist Haruko Seki has performed at many major UK venues including St John’s Smith Square, The South Bank, Wigmore and Fairfield Halls.  She has recorded for the BBC and for  German television.  Internationally she has performed in Europe,  America and the Far East – Her appeal is truly global!

Tune in between noon and 1.30pm on 104.4 FM in central London or on-line via: www.resonancefm.com
