Hello GoodBye – 22.06.13 – Ft: Clorinde, Dead Belgian + Gerry Mitchell

The penultimate Hello GoodBye show of the current season promises to be as action packed as ever with 2 live bands and a poet to squeeze into the full 90 minutes!

Tune in to hear live music from Clorinde and Dead Belgian, plus spoken word from Gerry Mitchell.

Clorinde is an instrumental avant-folk project composed by multi-instrumentalist Andrea Salvatici, Simone Salvatici David Harris & Derek Yau. Formed in 2005 by Italian brothers Simone and Andrea, Clorinde make extensive use of acoustic and electric instruments (banjos, guitars , vibraphones, African kalimbas, zithers, clarinet, bass, electric organ, Cello, flute, various drums and percussions), bringing an enchanting flavor of rhythmic psychedelia mathematical post-folk with exciting structures and surprising passages of minimal introspection.

Clorinde have just released their new double album “The Gardens of Bomarzo” which they’re currently performing accompanied by visuals.

Dead Belgian are a Liverpool-based band playing the music of Jacques Brel. They began life in 2007, inspired to share Brel’s music with all who would listen. Each member brought their own influences to the band, from European folk to progressive rock, stripping the songs to their bare bones and fattening them up again using a ramshackle drum kit, ukulele, guitar, accordion, saxophone, mandolin, clarinet and flute. Dead Belgian have developed a playful and inventive sound that meshes dense melodic patterns, demonic waves of intensity and passages of sparse frailty with vocals that have drawn comparison to Edith Piaf, Anthony Hegarty and Nico.

It is a sound unique to themselves while still capturing the beauty, passion and humour of the original work, a rousing and rowdy back-porch reinvention of Jacques Brel’s honest and poetic stories.

Also, Caledonian wordsmith Gerry Mitchell returns to the show with a clutch of new poems to read.

Tune in between noon and 1.30pm (GMT) on 104.4 FM in central London or on-line via: Resonance FM

Hello GoodBye – 15.06.13 – ft: The Great Park, Lorraine Wood, Trent Miller + Bob Meyer

4 live acoustic acts take to the airwaves this Saturday afternoon on Resonance FM’s Hello GoodBye show; The Great Park, Lorraine Wood, Trent Miller and Bob Meyer.

The Great Park (aka Stephen Burch) is an English songwriter currently based in Germany. He began making music whilst living on a remote farm in rural Ireland – using acoustic guitars, the family’s piano, brooms and chains. His lyrical, narrative songs bear the influence of the fields of County Cork and the old streets of Berlin. Images of persecution abound, songs of urgent travel and a search for home – the unifying theme is that of grave drama within ‘The Great Park’.

Lorraine Wood is a singer songwriter from East London. Her voice is reminiscent of Mary Margaret O’Hara snorting coke through a broken saxophone. Her songs about love, loss and disappointment have been known to make grown men cry.

Italian by birth but now residing in London, Trent Miller has been described as the Pete Doherty of the Americana movement. However, with his wistful acid-bite lyrics, mournful, chilling melodies and outlaw, renegade posture, a more suitable comparison might be to that of Gram Parsons or Gene Clark.

“Bob Meyer’s songs are modern folklore, backed up by guitar pickings of a different age…
it is unpretentious, and allows for your mind to move through the songs…
his music rises and dives with assurance and manages to create bonafide
country blues out of his obviously fresh brain…” – Blues in London
