Hello GoodBye info – 23.11.13 – Ft: Sebastian Melmoth, Stereocilia and Madame Pamita

Sebastian Melmoth, Stereocilia and Madame Pamita all contribute LIVE music to Hello GoodBye this Saturday lunchtime on Resonance FM from noon until 1.30pm (GMT).

Sebastian Melmoth stumbled from out of the desert sometime in 2010. They were tired, hungry and in need of a good drink. It seems that the barren wasteland from which they emerged, provided this group of vagabonds with copious unfathomable treasures. Jan-Carl Raspe, evidently the wisest stooge, was seen sporting a bass guitar as he trudged wearily into the nearest saloon. The regulars have since been known to recount stories of Raspe’s prodigious skills behind the computing machine – drum loops and soft synths galore – a myriad of sounds beyond the reaches of the imagination. Ulrike Meinhof, fresh from her resurrection, amazed the locals with her custom-made threads, fabulous haircut and beating rhythms so infectious, they set the stray dogs into a rabid frenzy… not to mention the male population of the town. Andreas Baader, arguably the most handsome of the three, immediately made for the brothel. Within minutes, soothing guitar melodies began emanating from the open French windows on the second floor. In accompaniment, he sung poetry so profound, it melted the hearts of all the loose girls in the place. After a sleepless night of demonic revelry, this band of misfits once again reunited under the misguided pretence of making music together. It may not be the most fervent career choice and it seldom pays, but they say it is good for the soul. And so, ever since that point in time, Sebastian Melmoth (it is rumoured that the name is a reference to Oscar Wilde) have endeavoured to share their theatrical, cacophonous art with any bright spark who would lend them an ear.

Stereocilia is London based guitarist and sound artist, John Scott. John uses his guitar and live looping techniques to create dense, rich layers of sound.
Over the past 10 years John has performed all over the UK and Europe with various projects. He has also presented work for live radio broadcasts, and soundtracks to short films. Last year he was chosen to perform with 100 guitarists for the UK debut of Rhys Chatham’s, ‘A Crimson Grail’ at the Anglican Cathedral in Liverpool for the Biennial festival.
John is Debut album will be out on the 25th November on his Echoic Memory imprint.

Madame Pamita uses the powers of euphonious prognostication to tell audience member’s fortunes and plays songs written both by herself and by those who have moved on to the great beyond: rural blues, old time, jug band and proto-jazz numbers about romance and revenge and mirth and mayhem. She plays on an assortment of odd antiquarian instruments (Imperial Banjeaurine, Banjolele, Marxophone, Polka-Lay-Lee, and Tiple; as well as a 115 year-old banjo and early 20th century ukuleles).

Hello GoodBye – 16.11.13 – Ft: Civil Civic, The Bara Bara Band + Pit Ponies

Today’s Hello GoodBye features live music from The Bara Bara Band and Pit Ponies plus an interview and pre-recorded live set from Civil Civic.

CIVIL CIVIC were formed in 2009 when Aaron (London via Australia) emailed Ben (Barcelona via Australia) with a couple of raw, frightening demos along with a 10-point plan to form a lean, loud, retro-futurist party-band. He flew to Barcelona with every bit of musical hardware he could carry. This was the first time Aaron and Ben had met in person, it could have been an awkward failure, but the gods were smiling…
Since then CIVIL CIVIC have toured like animals, topped the Hype-Machine charts in a blog-love tsunami and been lauded by respectable press world wide. With their trusty robot drummer (the enigmatic “Box”) they have released a lean, loud, retro-futurist party album called “Rules”.
CIVIL CIVIC are booked to play a headline slot at Baba Yaga’s Hut (Corsica Studios, London) plus the last ever ATP Festival this November.

The Bara Bara Band is an alt-folk quartet drawing promiscuously on old-time Americana, country and 60s psych, as well as soaking up the influences of traditional English folk music. Like a tapestry woven from silk and thorns, the result is a by turns cheery, by turns dark cacophony of beautifully hand-crafted songs. The band consists of Ruth Jacob, Rupert Browne, Will Dobson and Boris Ming. Rupert and Ruth also run the monthly folk club TOOTING FOLK, which is fast becoming a favourite on the London folk scene.

Featuring members from Corporal Bomber and the Machine and Thee Intolerable Kidd, UK Anti-Folk super group Pit Ponies pump out a riotous and raucous concoction of take no prisoners pop’n’roll.
They have star billing at the UK Anti-Folk Autumn Festival taking place at the 12 Bar club in Central London this evening.

Listen live in Central London on 104.4 FM or world-wide on-line via Resonance FM from noon until 1.30pm (GMT).

Hello GoodBye info – 09.11.13 – Ft: The Leonard Cohen, Yinka and Sabatta + The James Worse Public Address Method

Kaleidoscopic spoken word from The James Worse Public Address Method on todays Hello GoodBye, featuring LIVE music from The Leonard Cohen plus Yinka and Sabatta.

THE LEONARD COHEN
Arising from an ongoing drunken collaboration between Alexander Costello (Field Marshal Tubbs) and Duncan McAfee (Bib), The Leonard Cohen have grown into a 5 piece live band including musicians with pedigree from The Projects to The City Shanty Band. Front-man Costello performs his idiotically simple lyrics (She wants in / She wants out / in, out… etc.) to a setting of rough-around-the-edges dissonant guitars, brain-dead bread-and-butter drums and dirty-dirgy bass that adds up to something you shouldn’t expect from men of their age.

The Leonard Cohen will be disbanding at Christmas.

YINKA
Some have heralded him as ‘the missing link between Talking Heads and Prince’ others as the bastard child of Sly Stone and Queens of the Stone Age but London based is carving out a niche all his own.

Having fronted critically acclaimed rock band SABATTA, Yinka started on a new journey in 2012 – fusing funk, hip-hop, soul, rock and more. He also often draws upon his Nigerian heritage via syncopated rhythms, while seamlessly weaving these elements together with excellent storytelling, insistent grooves, unrelenting hooks and soulful vocals, Yinka creates that rare combination – music that makes you move to and gives you something to think about.

Yinka has played across the globe – including the UK, USA, Sweden, Turkey and France. He has shared stages with the likes of Janelle Monae and Saul Williams.Yinka has also made several film and TV appearances due to his powerful image and charisma – he’s even playing guitar in James Arthur’s debut video ‘You’re Nobody Til Somebody Loves You’. Uncompromising and defiantly individual, Yinka is as true an artist as you will ever see.

Yinka’s latest single Little Hipster Girl Lost is out nowhttps://soundcloud.com/yinka-oyewole/little-hipster-girl-lost

THE JAMES WORSE PUBLIC ADDRESS METHOD
The language of Mr Worse is familiar yet otherworldly, channelled as it is from a source he is not entirely convinced is internal.
Mr Worse is engaged in gathering these ‘Worsicles’ into an ever-expanding, continually evolving epic, entitled ‘Flark of the Dandibus’.
He hopes never to publish this, but instead for it to exist only in performance – like they used to do by the fire in longhouses, in the good old days.

There are a couple of recorded Worsicles here:
