Live music in the Resonance FM studio this afternoon from Spanner Jazz Punks and Jessica Marlowe & The Wildtracks, plus a pre-recorded live session from Spanner Big Band.
Dan Spanner is the driving force behind both Spanner Jazz Punks and the Spanner Big Band.
Spanner Jazz Punks are the troublesome offspring of a frenetic marriage between sleazy punk jazz and psychedelic performance art. With their roots in the legendary French chainsaw-juggling circus company Archaos, their repertoire is steeped in psychedelic rock, ska, gypsy, klezmer and big band swing.
Spanner Big Band are a big band who refine their playing through a weekly residency, imbibing the music with a distinctive ‘live’ spirit. Their repertoire includes the music of Basie, Ellington, Mingus and more, plus original compositions & arrangements by Spanner and other members and even a sprinkling of free improvisation.
Jessica Marlowe & The Wildtracks
Jessica Marlowe has been writing songs for this new project and cites film soundtracks as a great influence on her approach to song writing, drawing from the imaginative and fictional.
